ATLANTA – A Georgia Senate committee has approved legislation that would ban ranked-choice voting in Georgia.
A well-funded campaign is afoot across the nation to allow ranked-choice voting, which allows voters to rank candidates by preference, Senate Majority Whip Randy Robertson, R-Cataula, told members of the Senate Ethics Committee late Tuesday.
Ranked-choice voting is allowed statewide only in Maine and Alaska, while Georgia permits it only for members of the military and other Georgians living overseas.
But cities including San Francisco and New York City have been using ranked-choice voting, Robertson said. In New York, it took 15 days to decide the winner of the mayoral race in 2021 because of the complexity of the ballot, he said.
“If you want (a voter) to stand in line all day, hand them a ballot with all these choices and decisions,” he said.
Madeline Malisa of Maine, a visiting fellow with the Opportunity Solutions Project, a nonpartisan group that works on voting issues, said ranked-choice voting has been a “disaster” in Maine. Voter confusion over crowded ballots filled with candidates causes a large number of ballots to be rejected, delaying results in some cases for weeks or months, she said.
“Voters are required to vote for every candidate on the ballot or their vote is thrown out,” Malisa said. “Results like these do not inspire confidence.”

Ranked-choice voting another Leftest scam
Good. Ranked-choice voting for a zero sum choice is a really crappy system.
It’s contrary to one man one vote.
And really puts our “democracy” at risk.
Thank God! We have enough problems now in GA.
It denies the voter the opportunity to change their mind in a run-off election in a narrowed field.
A ranked-choice in a full slate election would have different ranked choices in an election with a lesser slate, because the voters know who was eliminated after the first round. RCV forces them to choose later rounds without knowing who was eliminated in prior rounds.
That makes RCV "guess" voting, not "ranked" voting.

This seems unconstitutional. Some are being forced to vote for candies the do not want in office at all.
Which is why the Dems want it. It allows more time to determine the number of votes needed and then time to manufacture...oops, sorry..."find" them.
Veto?
Doubtful Kemp would veto. Raffensperger is the one who started the whole rank choice voting thing.
Raffensperger is the one who started the whole rank choice voting thing.“
Well since ratburger and Kemp are thick as thieves l won’t be surprised if there is a veto.
I was in college in the 1960s and the political clubs instituted the ranked choice systems for campus elections. In order to overcome it, campaigns advised one to cast a “bullet” vote. That is to say, you were to vote for only one candidate per office.
I seems the democrats have caught on to that workaround.
Kemp pretty much just threw Ratburger under the bus a couple months ago on the election fraud. He won’t veto. Nobody in the GOP wants this.
Ranked-choice helped Murkowski (one of the worst RINOs) keep her senate seat.
It also caused Palin’s defeat in the house race.
