The concept of an “open primary” makes zero sense.
Both the RNC and the DNC (who do the nominating) are private organizations. Voters can “register” with either one, but those who are “registered” are not members in any traditional sense.
Allowing crossovers or non-enrolled voters to vote basically nationalizes the two “major” parties, who are colluding with each other to run increasingly fake November contests, where (if they have their way) it doesn’t matter who wins.
I think to vote in a party primary, you should have to be something more than a name on a list. There should be a requirement that you are registered in that party for 3 years, or 5 years, and taht you can demonstrate support for that party either financially or in field work.
