"Wow….its cold in January."

It happens every year, but those dummies make it sound like it's something new. I got stranded in Lancaster, Pa. for two extra days due to an ice storm. I'd been traveling back home from S.C. This was around 1998. It was January, and Route 81 both ways was closed due to ice and tractor trailers having gone off the road. My old VW wouldn't start because the windchill was -40. There were rolling blackouts at the hotel I was staying at, due to the extreme temperatures, something I'd never experienced before. When the roads finally reopened, I called AAA to give my car a jump so I could finally get home.

I live in central NY State, in the Mohawk Valley...the foothills of the Adirondacks. We've had temperatures in the teens this week during the day. It's 4 degrees outside right now, but it nothing that we haven't had in the past.

“It happens every year”

I think it was the winter of ‘70-’71 when my ex and I (and our cat) got stuck in Punxsutawney after the car went off the road in a blizzard and a trucker picked us up. We spent two nights sleeping on the floor of some motel there.

A similar thing happened to my sister and her husband traveling between Syracuse and Cleveland. Three months later, they moved to Florida.
