I’ve got ancestors on both Union and Confederate side. One had slaves and when his son went off to school he came back an abolitionist and his father disowned him. Some war heroes, some Scottish castle dwellers and English high sheriffs, one traced back to the Mayflower. Etc. I love history and researching family trees.

Me too! I descend from survivors of the Johnstown Flood of 1889. I have a grandfather, former CW POW, who helped chase down Lee post-Gettysburg and was in town when he surrendered. I'm currently tracing the battles he took part in and trying to visit their locations.

Another grandfather has a town named after him in PA. Finally made a "pilgrimage" last year...smallest town I've ever seen. Met a 5th cousin (local historian) enroute.

I found the tombstone going back to my FOURTH great-grandfather AND grandmother. I could have gotten to the FIFTH, but I ran out of time on my trip.

I've spent a lot of time going down various "rabbit holes"! So cool.
