Back in the 1980's on the midnight shift at the long distance telephone switch we would listen to phone calls to stay awake. The intermachine trunks to New York were usually worth listening to. We often heard 976 exchange smut phone calls from NYC. [I know, cue the Seinfeld reference]
The Switchmen had a cassette recorder to capture telephone line anomalies or illegal uses of our services. One night one of the Switchmen posted up a trunk from NYC and recorded one of the smut calls. He had brought his kid's Teddy Ruxpin Doll in to work that night and put the 976 exchange smut recording in the doll. The funniest thing I have ever seen was that Teddy Ruxpin doll in the throes of passion with paroxysms more exaggerated than Meg Ryan in "When Harry Met Sally..."
