“Jesus Christ” is said in many places, including church and Bible study.

But one mother in Tennessee said her 7-year-old son was written up in school for saying “Jesus Christ.”

Shonna Coleman said she got a call from her son’s first grade teacher telling her the boy had said a bad word that day.

“So we was like, ‘OK, so...

Had an aunt who’d say “Jiminy Cricket” instead.

Worked with a woman who used “Jersey City” instead

A few months ago I was three days into a new job, that was paying pretty well. Then I was notified that I was being terminated.

The firable offense was that I referred to the job as "an answered prayer".

It wasn’t that long ago when the use of any profanity, or non-profanity used in a profane way, was solved by saying that the kid needed to have his mouth washed out with soap.

At the same time, for adults, the idea that “politeness will be enforced”, meant it. Businesses embraced the motto that “We reserve the right to serve anyone”. And the police backed them in this.

There were laws against vagrancy, panhandling, petty theft, public disorder, disturbing the peace, and a litany of other offenses.

Teach your kid not to swear lady and he won’t be written up. Pretty simple really.

Whenever I heard an atheist at the jobsite using JC or GD I would mention that they are hypocrites.

They would usually reply “no I’m not” or “what do you mean?” And I would let them know that as an atheist they shouldn’t use words associated with the religions that they do not profess or not abide by nor believe in. They would disagree.... I would counter with the still small voice or caution about playing to close to the slippery ditch and falling therein.

Then I would get that “well what do you believe in?”
My reply was “I believe that you are a hypocrite, get back to work.”

>>>The disciplinary notice from Hope Sullivan Elementary School dated Jan. 4 said “He said Jesus Christ when he dropped his LEGOs he was cleaning up from recess.”<<<

Did you read the story? The kid wasn’t testifying, he cursed when he dropped his Legos. His mom sounds like a real Mensa candidate...“So we was like, ‘OK, so what did he say?”.

"Play Well."

Perhaps he had been negatively influenced by watching BTTF, because when Marty McFly had witnessed the DeLorean disappear, the same thing happened. He was certain that the Doc had

disintegrated Einstein.

(a real Mensa candidate)

In Christian belief, Jesus Christ is the "GOEL" -- the Redeemer -- so I'd have to go with the kid innocently blurting out an important word involving LEGOs and play time, which he had been using to engage in a little building project.

You can't keep a good LEGO contractor down.

On the one hand, it's an average day at school when kids say the darndest things. OTOH, it attracted media attention on account of the mother's reaction to the school's reaction.

A veritable chain reaction.

“Never in my life have I heard at a public school that you cannot say Jesus Christ, and she said it wasnt that he said the word, it was how he said it because he dropped his LEGOs,” Coleman said.

Coleman said.

Many of us here know what Coleman also said, many decades ago. Has it been that long? I've even had that quote on my FR page for a long while. Best if I include the context:

A Hebrew equivalent to dream on is אתה חי בסרט to a male, and את חיה בסרט to a female – literally, you’re living in a movie. It can be used not only as a refusal of an offer, but also as a way of giving the person you’re speaking with a reality check – get real.

How to say "dream on" in Hebrew

"Just be yourself, Sir. Whatever happens, they can't take that away from you." ~ Coleman

... and we shall see what will become of his dreams (Gen 37:20)

Isaiah 40.3 The voice of him that cries in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
Isaiah 40.3 The voice of him that cries, In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

***

🤔

Well now that was fun! I may have annoyed some folks with that one, but it's like what Coleman said.

BTW, anyone catch the time of day at the top of that "Parent Notice of Disciplinary Incident"?

It makes me wonder what would happen to the kid, should he incur four tardies in a row. Key details have long been recorded in the Historical Documents.

Meet me at 1:15... major breakthrough... "Jesus Saves" on the way to school... that's the power of love... history's gonna change...

Yeah, I know...

"Get Real."

Seven year olds should stick with f***, h***, d***, s***, or similar age-appropriate expletives when dropping their leggos. But they will repeat what they learn at home. So parents beware.

The person who was offended was a woman “married” to another woman.

Doesn't say that in the article. Where did you see this?

Using the holy name of Jesus Christ as an expletive is definitely offensive, if not blasphemous, to Christian sensibilities. The Catholic Church has long had the month of January devoted to the Holy Name of Jesus (just like it has the month of June dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus--it is not "Pride Month"). The annual feast day celebrating the Holy Name of Jesus was January 3rd.

The month of January belongs to the Holy Name of Jesus.

I was telling b4me about what led to my own firing a few months ago. I told a lesbian that the new job was “an answered prayer” and she had me terminated for saying that.
