By now perhaps they have several. There has been plenty of time for that.
How exactly did India and Pakistan get nuclear weapons? How did North Korea get them? How did Israel get them?
It is apparently not that difficult. The original success was with 1940's technology. Modern equipment makes the isotope separation much easier than it was in the 1940's. A number of workable bomb designs are well-known.
Iran has engineers who are at least as good if not better than the Pakistanis or the Indians. Whatever could be holding up the Iranians from joining the club?
Could it be the Russians are not all that enthusiastic about the Iranian project?
