Independence for Taiwan has never been US policy.
Not Nixon, not Ford, not Carter, not Reagan, not HW Bush, not Clinton, not W Bush, not Obama, not Trump, and not Biden.
We are never going to fight a war over a principle that’s never been US policy.
I’d be satisfied just to hear K J-P try to explain it to Steve Doocy.

US law is this:
“ Whenever the laws of the United States refer or relate to foreign countries, nations, states, governments, or similar entities, such terms shall include and such laws shall apply with such respect to Taiwan.”
US law does recognize Taiwan independence.
Everything else is diplomatic doublespeak.
“ Taiwan Belongs to China.”
What does that mean?
Support this contention.
Fortunately the War Powers Act (which is unconstitutional anyway) does not cover defending foreign entities that US policy recognizes as belonging to another state - as we have recognized Taiwan as part of China for 40 years.
So Chomo Joe just gave the green light for a Chinese invasion.

Big mistake by Biden.
He just had to say nothing about the independence issue.
Pro-actively expressing himself on that, greatly weakens Taiwan against China.
That’s always the American position.
