I grew up in SoCal in the ‘50s. It was common knowledge that the place to see stars was at the Hollywood unemployment office. As soon as shooting stopped, nearly everyone who worked on the film was ‘unemployed’ and so they went down to start drawing their checks.
The studios did have to pay unemployment taxes so it was considered only right for the employees to draw no matter how rich they were. No doubt the same mentality is on display here.
