I read the tunnel went from the synanagogue to a communal bath house so the Hasidics could engage in ritual communal bathing.

Didn't take long, did it? Dissatisfied with the horrific writing of the NY Post, which did nothing but obfuscate, I searched further afield for other sources. It seems these teenagers from Israel ascribe to a splinter group of the Lubavitch chassidim which believe that the late spiritual leader (the Rebbe) was the messiah. They were dissatisfied with what they perceived as an excessively slow pace of expanding the main synagogue, so they took matters into their own hands. They paid some laborers to dig out a tunnel connecting the huge synagogue at 770 Eastern Parkway (been there) to an UNUSED closed women's ritual bath. Their actions were completely without any official authorization.

I don't know where you read that the women's ritual bath was to be a "communal bath house", but it is an antisemitic lie of the worst sort. Orthodox men and women never swim together or bath together. That would be considered exceedingly immodest. There are separate men's and women's swimming hours, for example, at Jewish community centers. And we don't have "bath houses". That's for Barry Soetoro and his friends.

I am really surprised at you for spreading this filthy lie.

I wasn’t aware that it was a woman’s communal bath. I only read communal bath. I thought it was for ritual cleaning or something for the men. I didn’t presume any homosexual context or mixed sex situations in what I read.
