Agreed. At this point the USPS is an anachronism. Let private firms handle first class mail...whatever there is of it.

I used to send people postcards until I found out that nobody checks their mail much.

One year, it took 10 days for an envelope to be delivered to my oldest son who lives 2 hours away from me. Letters from here in Rome, NY have to be sent west to Rochester, 2 1/2 miles away for processing, before they are then sent to their destinations. I called the post office about the delay, and he tried to tell me that they were short of staff. I told him that they don't seem to have any trouble delivering junk mail instead of regular mail. When I pressed him about the problem, he admitted that they give Amazon packages priority over regular mail.

This year, for the first time, an envelope I sent the same son, was returned to me with a message "Address Doesn't Exist." My son has lived at the same address for at least 30 years, and I have always sent his mail with the same address on the envelope without problem. He lives in a three story brownstone, and there are three different mailboxes for each flat. His is the second floor, which I clearly mark as 2nd floor on the envelope. Dizty USPS delivery people.
