Man, I did the same thing. I had a plane ticket and a hotel reservation 2 blocks from the Capitol. The day before I was to leave, something made me decide to not go. Not a wife, since I live by myself. I still wanted to go. But for some reason I just didn't. Divine intervention. Seriously, I believe it was.
There were hundreds of thousands of people at the other end of the DC mall where Trump gave his speech. Most of them did not go anywhere near the Capitol, much less onto the grounds, much, much less into the building.
The percentage of fed-gov instigators among the people who went into the Capitol is probably higher than we can even imagine.
