There wasn't any junk when I went there , but that was decades ago, when it was a long way from any gang-infested areas.

There mare a few public ranges out there. I went to a private range. Gated / locked with written check in. I believe it is called West End Gun Club. You can only attend with a paying member. Often after heavy rain it is not accessible as you literally have to cross Lytle Creek to get there on an unpaved road.
