They didn't blockade Kaliningrad on their own. It was part of international sanctions and they decided to join it since they are directly threatened by a expansionist Russia. They know more about Russia than you do and they know that it is a danger to them. They may of very well had assurances of protection.

So what happened on July 13, 2022 when Lithuania dramatically reversed course and completely ended the blockade ?

The EU agreed with the reversal. Seemed to be urging it.

USA said nothing, after previously threatening Article 5 if Lithuania was attacked.

Maybe we will know some day, after this is all over. But I suspect that the EU bailed on USA/UK/Poland planned expansion of the conflict.
