Mitt Romney and his moderate friends plan to leave Senate or face an uphill battle for reelection
Deseret News ^ | 12/30/23 | Gitanjali Poonia

A group of senators — four Republicans and four Democrats — ate takeout for dinner at Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s home during COVID-19, Romney said at an event with former House Speaker Paul Ryan. They sat six feet apart and discussed policy.

The Republicans in the group included Sens. Romney, Murkowski, Susan Collins of Maine and Rob Portman of Ohio. The Democrats were Sens. Kyrsten Sinema, who has since registered as an independent, Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Jon Tester of Montana and Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, as the Deseret News reported. This group was influential in the passage of several bipartisan bills like a COVID-19 stimulus bill under Trump, as well as the infrastructure bill, the CHIPS Act and the Respect for Marriage Act under Biden.

In September 2023, Romney said he won’t run for reelection and will finish serving in office in January 2025. At the time, he said, “I’m hoping that in the year and a half I have left that we’re going to be able to take on some of those issues, particularly as it relates to the deficit and debt and immigration,” he said.

His retirement coincides with many other moderate senators bowing out of running for reelection or facing an uphill battle to victory. The middle lane in Congress has been shrinking for decades, political science professor Michael Lyons at Utah State University told the Deseret News.

How did that little twit get so much power within the RINOs? Was he one of Epstein’s worker bees entrapping these DC lowlifes?

As an aside, Mitt Romney is an absolutely terrible person and I am ashamed to have voted for him in 2012. He does not have one redeeming quality and is the definition of a malevolent narcissist.

More likely is they had an orgy with trafficked and underage girls than they sat 6’ apart and followed the stupid rules set forth by the now-disappeared Fauci.

Many Republican voters are leaving the party with them.

I also believe this is where the idea to run Joe Manchin for President with a republican VP was hatched. So far, that is still happening from what I have heard.

That implies they would be acting differently if they weren’t under some kind of threat. Hogwash! They’re doing exactly what they want to do, every move they make is of their own free will and they have every opportunity to do otherwise.

You give them way too much credit.

>>This is the “gang of eight” scam.

There is a real Gang of Eight that are privy to National Security secrets.

“The Gang of Eight is a colloquial term for a set of eight leaders within the United States Congress who are briefed on classified intelligence matters by the executive branch. Specifically, the Gang of Eight includes the leaders of each of the two parties from both the Senate and House of Representatives, and the chairs and ranking minority members of both the Senate Committee and House Committee for intelligence as set forth by 50 U.S.C. § 3093(c)(2)”

The first sentence describes a lie or they are all morons. It’s both.

The “moderates” refer to each other as “comrade”.

We still need to get rid of all of the RINOs:
McConnell,
Linda Graham,
Cotton,
Cornyn,
etc.
The list goes on.

I’m convinced they are being blackmailed

Of course. I have been stating it for years because it makes sense to assume it. Freshman politicians in DC are assigned a handler whose job is to compromise politicians any way possible (threaten, bribe, blackmail). Also, look up Whitney Webb. She wrote a book recently called "The United States of Blackmail".

Good post.

This was an open secret in DC for many decades.

Lobbyists who get the big fees must have blackmail files—while politicians can be bought by bribery there is no guarantee the slime stays bought.

Imho there is a “black market” of blackmail files on politicians—the pols are bought and sold like commodities for any special interest (including foreign intelligence services) willing to pay the entry fee.

One old example was J. Edgar Hoover (his own special interest group)—he collected the “dirt” on politicians to assure both ample FBI funding and to assure no President dare fire him.

Well, they are all vulnerable to defeat when they come up for reelection — except maybe Murkowski. Alaska’s electoral system gave her victory in 2022, even though she wasn’t the favorite of most Republicans.
