Ha, yes. King of Nothing. I like it. Charles had all sorts of powers, known as the “royal prerogative”. But he dare not exercise any of them without the permission of the prime minister.
It’s sort of like saying you own a car, but you cannot drive it (or even sit in it) unless someone else gives you permission. If so, do you really own a car?
Someone else here on FR once mentioned that the British monarchy now mainly exists for tourism purposes. I’ll let some British FReeper to comment on that.
Parliament makes the laws. Charles makes appearances. England only keeps the royals around for the tourist dollar.
