And if you want to protect yourself from virus particles, you wouldn't re-use the same mask over and over. You'd have something that seals to your face, instead of allowing plenty of airflow around the sides, top and bottom. You'd have specific decontamination procedures for removing it, as well as set timeframes where it needs to be swapped for a new one. Hazmat disposal containers/methods. And so on.
