I’d think they would be in a weaker bargaining position.
In the final analysis, isn’t our problem that we want our people to live better lives than, say Chinese workers, and so our norm is to pay them more than comparable Chinese workers? Thus, our goods cost more, and consumers choose the cheaper imports and pay for them by selling ourselves to the foreigners.
The only solution I see is tariffs. If the final result is that we become a weaker nation because we prioritize a soft life for all, so be it.
