I heard that Turner and Rogers solicited and got Johnson and Mitch McConnell to help, but I haven't heard the backstory.
What have you heard?
As an aside, the gutting of the bill/amendment was a clear admission that they've got something re: UFO/UAPs to hide...or they wouldn't have killed the bill.
DOD, CIA, Lockheed et al aren't too smart...but they mean business.
If they are willing to kill people to shut them up, they aren't going to disclose.
I have not heard any more detail than you provided—sounds like you are up to speed.
Richard Dolan has been a good source for this stuff—as you know.
Michael Salla is probably a bit outside your comfort zone, but his comments are here in his weekly update:

I thought his most interesting/provocative comment was that some Republicans who had been briefed on the details of alien contact/communications were horrified at the alien claims on human origins that contradicted standard religious doctrine—and did not want that stuff released to the public.
Reading between the lines I think the concerns of some Republican Congress folks was that their constituents might think that they were delivering the bad news—and would take it out on them. “You are possessed by demons.”
Politicians will always look out for themselves first.
