Federal employees are being asked to rent electric cars when the cost is less or equal to gas-powered cars and where charging is accessible They've also been asked to take trains instead of planes if their journeys are less than 250 miles The White House said on Friday the federal government has acquired over 14,000 zero emission vehicles and installed 5,500 charging ports to date.
During Thursday's briefing White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre asked if the most high-profile vehicle in the federal fleet - the so-called Beast, or presidential limo - might become electric in the near future.
President Joe Biden made another move Thursday to push his electric car agenda and live up to his nickname as 'Amtrak Joe' by pressing federal employees to rent electric vehicles and take more trains.
In a directive Thursday, federal employees were told to rent EVS on official travel when costs are less or equal to comparable gas-powered vehicles and where charging is accessible.
Additionally, federal workers were instructed to take rail for trips less than 250 miles when cost-effective and feasible rather than flying.
It also directs federal employees to avoid taking private vehicles for official travel.
Government employees should also opt for electric vehicle Lyft, Uber or taxi rides if available and increasing public transit use.

I have to laugh.
I figure these Federal workers will rent whatever is reliable and will not leave them stranded. Maybe rent a nice big honking ICE SUV - w 4 wheel drive is if there is snow around. It is not as if the Fed workers that prefer renting ICE automobiles are going to be demoted or fired.

Only 8% have reported back to their offices since the pandemic. Most work from home, shopping, golfing, antiquing, brunches, lunches. It makes sense they steal motor pool cars though.
I told everyone who said “I’ll never buy an EV” the government will soon demand you buy one or take dangerous public transportation (try waiting for one in the dark as thugs size you up driving past, or you have all the groceries you can carry or decided to buy a lamp).

One psychological drawback of seeing someone else being forced to buy an EV is it makes people think “Hey, I want to avoid being punished.”
Like: No, you cannot have ice cream with your brother and sister. You refused to eat the cauliflower I told you to eat at dinner.
And you can go to your room if you sass me again.
Buy an EV? “You can’t make me. I won’t, I won’t.”
And get at least one mRNA COVID shot with

8% back to their offices? I think this is a major scandal. I'm surprised that no one cares anymore.
I will bet the cost of renting the electric cars will fall on the taxpayer.
