Chicago spent nearly $1million to build a migrant camp on a toxic site, as the city continues to struggle with a massive surge of asylum seekers, with officials now impounding incoming buses.
Official records seen by ABC 7 show the city spent more than $985,000 on the shuttered migrant camp at a Brighton Park lot - despite warnings that the site was not safe and outrage by locals, including a lawsuit.
The nearly $1million bill is not much compared to the total expected cost of the camp, which was mostly financed by the state government under a $125million contract with a private contractor.
The state put up $65 million for the tent camp and for permanent structures at a site in the Little Village neighborhood. Together, they would house 2,200 migrants.
But the state stepped in on December 5, putting an end to the controversial project over environmental concerns at the former industrial site.

I don’t think Abbott is ordering anyone to a sanctuary city. He can’t force them there, but if they request it, he certain can help fulfill their wishes.

If Chicago is impounding the buses, unload the buses just outside Chicago city limits.
The entire illegal immigration issue has assumed the proportions of a monstrous scam - it was always a scam, but now we have cartel, private companies, and corrupt government officials in on the thing. That's a lot of protection. Pity the taxpayers don't have any.
Should be illegal to impound legal transportation. Violates interstate traffic and commerce. Chicago wanted illegals, they called people in border states ‘racists’ and made their cities sanctuaries. The buses are only bringing the chickens home to roost.
The way to solve the migrant crisis is to bus all invaders to Washington DC.

Not only is Chicago a sanctuary city but Illinois has been a sanctuary state since 2017. As such, the state prohibits any locality from passing ordinances to assist border patrol. Chicago and its suburbs have no authority to prohibit transport to its jurisdiction. This is fun watching them choke on their fake virtue. Keep em’ comin’, Lone Star.

By ‘em a non-resident pass and send them up to Wisconsin state parks like Chicago FIBS have done for years..
Just have the busses drop the migrants off just outside the city line - and give them a photocopied map to the Mayors office and an MTA subway card
The busses most likely belong to the feds anyway. Unless the FBI isn’t using them to transport agents to MAGA Rallies, posing as Trump Fans.
Impounding buses on what law? All I see is massive lawsuits over the next year....with the city left holding a $500,000 damages situation over each bus incident.
I’m sure there are rest stops along the way.
