It makes me wonder if some good has come from the slimness of the GOP’s majority. It’s, arguably, allowed the worst of the RINOs to out themselves and be purged from the caucus. What we’re left with is a leaner, more unified caucus. It was easier for RINO’s to hide when they could cover for each other. They’d take turns making the unpopular votes, and vote the way their base wanted when it didn’t matter. With such a slim majority they were not able to hide the way they have in the past.

That’s not to say there aren’t still some weak kneed Republicans still in Congress, but they’re less the corrupt, bought off variety and more the go along to get along types. They find comfort in anonymity and will go along with the consensus. Now that the balance of power has shifted towards a more MAGA direction they’re more willing to vote that way.

mbrfl,

Great post.

During the Speaker vote that elected McCarthy, I noted that if a red wave 2022 had occurred McCarthy would’ve been selected rather easily. It was the thin margins that gave the conservative rebels leverage.

Same thing with this vote, as you noted the moderate squishy types have nowhere to hide.
