Having had much to do with hiring tech professionals in the US, to the point of dealing with Indian subcontractors and H1b agencies - Indian=Asian, as far as HR was concerned.

Where I was the desired people were “underrepresented minorities”, which effectively meant black or hispanic.

Indians certainly werent underrepresented, and hiring them didnt meet any goals - I had lots. I even had a case of an intern who was a tribal Siberian native, who was probably as underrepresented a minority as one coukd imagine, but HR said no.

For decades (from the early 1990s) we also had contractor and vendor goals, “minority or woman owned” - aka meebie-weebies. No points for Indian or Chinese owned vendors. Most of those guys had the trick of putting in thir wives or mothers as the “owners”, so hey, it was all cool.

This is all BS of course, and everyone knew it.

One thing I find to be true is that East Indians are extremely rational people. If you want to hurt yourself, to meet some leftist fashionable morality, they will let you. However, they themselves won’t do. They will let you disadvantage yourself, while unapologetically seeking economic advantages for themselves.

I don’t begrudge their unwillingness to join in the lemming push for economic destruction. It’s us who has to take responsibility not destroy ourselves so that liberals feel better about themselves.

I just simply want people to hire who they want and who they don’t want and let it all work out.
