WASHINGTON: Rep Liz Cheney, a former Republican, has warned the country sternly not to reelect Donald Trump as the president, stating that stopping the former commander-in-chief's attempt to make a comeback must be the "focus" of all political parties.
"There's a lot that has to be done to begin to rebuild the Republican Party, potentially to build a new conservative party. But in my view, that has to wait until after the 2024 election because our focus has got to be on defeating Donald Trump," Cheney told ABC.
Liz Cheney's focus on defeating Donald Trump in 2024 When asked if she has "ruled anything out" as a third-party candidate for the upcoming election, Cheney, the author of the recently released book 'Oath and Honor: A Memoir and a Warning', emphasized that she would not "do something that has the impact of helping Donald Trump." Democrats have argued that if Trump is the Republican nominee, third-party candidates would only weaken President Joe Biden and help him in the general election.
They are especially hostile against No Labels, an organization that is trying to get access to voting boxes across the nation while considering running an independent, nonpartisan "unity ticket" with a Democrat and a Republican for president and vice president, respectively.
In addition, she stated that it is "crucially important in this next cycle... to elect candidates who believe in the Constitution" to ensure that the peaceful transfer of power is completed following the next election.
