Those of you who have spent time in Latin America know that houses there are different from ours. They are designed to be difficult to be broken into. There are high walls topped with either broken glass (old school) or razor wire. There is no easy access to even the front door.
American home design must look like crazy easy picking to the criminals who are coming here from the south. One major difference being that unlike most of Latin America, American homes might well be pretty well armed to resist attempted break in.
And no, it is not something we need to ‘get used to’.

Ours was a nation dependent upon a moral citizenry, and that morality was based in Christianity.
It no longer is for the most part.
