Wow. Post of the day. If they lived one day in Afghanistan or rural Honduras or anywher in Africa, they would be shocked.

Our kids are upset with slow Wi-Fi, no Starbucks or there is a line at the Target.

No idea how the US is so insulated on purpose, for now.

Our crime is self-inflicted.

They have no idea. And won’t until it’s way, way too late.

I mean, the headline doesn't match the lede. At all.

"Is Gen Z turning against Western civilisation?"

does not equal

"No single issue has catalysed Gen Z"

You can't have a turning point, without having a turning point. #triplefacepalm

Maybe Gen Z is rebelling against abhorrent, craphound journolistism. Certainly Freepers should demand better on this site.

Only 36 per cent of voters in a new Wall Street Journal / NORC survey say the American Dream still holds true, a feeling that is even more pronounced among younger people.

They're right on that score. The American Dream is dead, and not Trump, not anyone can revive it.

Zoomers are more polarized than previous generations. Leftists angrily reject an American Dream they see as racist. Rightists are bitter about being denied the American Dream.

But Left or Right, most Zoomers are bitter, angry, feel short-changed and lied to. And they're right about that.

Yep.
Wait till they discover that they can’t afford the homes their parents left them.

“...teachers becoming more and more that way a result of college and universities which are infested with communist ideology??? a la what we saw in the Ivy League university presidents in Congress this week!...”

This is the correct causality and origin story.

It came from the Ivy League. then spread to the other colleges and universities. And was then spread by the elite media and the public schools to the rest of society.

We have to teach them.

And mostly the parents can't because they have never been anywhere else either.

If they have been somewhere else it has been at resorts where everything to keep them safe and comfortable has been built.

And it is not just the youngers either. Today I had to deal with someone who should have known better who did not bother to make basic winter preparations ahead of time and now thinks that everyone should jump to help them. Well, no.

Other people who are in fixes through no fault of their own are ahead of you in line. I can slap a band-aid on your problem but solving it is going to take several days.

Here are some questions to ask wokies: what colors would the “women” like their burqas to be? Would the alphabet folks like their rooftop parties to be on a six, eight or ten story building?

Re-institute the draft and send these snowflakes overseas. They'll change their minds. The US is (was?) far superior than all they will ever see ‘over there’.

The linked article is blocked, but the issues raised in the excerpt are primarily economic. All these domains are linked, but economic policy questions are a small part of what we mean by “western civilization.”

With regard to economic policy choices, a very wide range of policy balances are compatible with “western civilization.” The U.S. does not have to be Canada does not have to be Germany does not have to be Japan, Sweden, Italy, France or Singapore. Some countries do X better than Y. Countries can learn from each other. Countries can adapt.

The underlying issues of “western civilization” are the rule of law, the sovereign rights of individuals (including rights that government is bound to respect), and a recognition that “rights” are by definition reciprocal. If I demand X for myself, I must acknowledge that you have an identical right that I must respect — and that government is bound to respect. Government is meant to be our servant, not our master.

The left today is practicing asymmetrical warfare. It phrases its demands in the classical language of rights, but in reality it is asserting special caste privileges dependent on the brute power of the state to suppress the rights of some citizens to the selfish desires of others.

Gen Z? The collapse of religious and civic formation has reached the point that many young people — perhaps a majority, according to many polls — are unable to think through this clearly and connect the dots. They are listening to leftists who promise to give them whatever they want at the moment. But Gen Z will get a speedy education the moment the shoe is on the other foot. They will revel in cancel culture until they themselves get cancelled. They will cheer for racial and gender quotas until they start getting the “your kind need not apply” rejection letters, find that they cannot gain access to or advance within desired professions without loyalty tests, ritual obeisance to stupidity, and chronic lying. Sooner or later they will grow weary of working for incompetent superiors chosen for political reasons and of status hierarchies that — being governed by incompetents at the top — systematically penalize excellence and promote mediocrity lest those at the top feel threatened. They will grow weary of hateful petty humiliations at the hands of ignorant and stupid people against whom one has no recourse but cannot avoid. They will chafe at being prevented from simply stepping out of a corrupt game and trying to do their own thing. The revolution sooner or later will eat its own.

The big question is whether this correction occurs before the structures of democratic process and the rule of law are entirely destroyed. A free society was won on the battlefield, and hundreds of battlefields over several centuries. Western Europeans did not wake up one morning and decide to suddenly become classical liberals. They finally wearied of wars of mutual annihilation and grudgingly agreed to live and let live. The great charters of liberty from the Magna Carta to the Constitution are peace treaties negotiated by men who had grown tired of drowning in oceans of blood.

The left today postures as the champion of freedom when its goal is the enslavement of all but the elites of the inner party. It is having some success indoctrinating Gen Z with a lie. Sooner or later, the lie will be exposed and we will again be faced with the existential choice of whether we wish to live as free men or slaves.

The left is bringing the battlefield closer by the hour. At such moments, the precipitating issue is often quite unexpected. It could happen tomorrow, next month, or a year from now. Someone, somewhere, will say no, and will be prepared to defy authority rather than submit. The question then becomes the direction in which people will rally; how will the country split? And ... does anyone start shooting? The left is already episodically and opportunistically violent. The left now supports a president who routinely disregards the law, which is executive nullification. Countless democrat jurisdictions routinely practice massive resistance every bit as blatant as anything George Wallace and Lester Maddox ever attempted. Leftist mobs stage pogroms on campuses and in inner cities with little or no resistance from leftists in positions of authority who are supposed to be charged with maintaining order and the rule of law, but who in fact empower the mobs. When — not if — the right starts replying in kind, it will get ugly fast.

Amazon Prime has a Western Civilization Documentary. It’s new 2023.
I think it’s done in 1 hour segments of 57.
It has been an excellent watch so far.

I missed the series so occasionally don’t get the references.

By the way, youtube is getting ridiculous with their making one sign-in, you probably didn’t see this, but it seems the Brady Bunch is now unsafe.

They are just going to have to learn the hard way.

Most of them are not going to learn at all.

They are just going to die young and stupid. Or maybe older and stupid. The question is "how many others will they take down with them"?

Maybe a few of the smarter ones can limit the collateral damage from their peers. It is not up to the Boomers any longer.

I don’t think so. They just want to spend the remaining time of their useless, worthless lives galivanting around Europe with a backpack full of drugs, a water bottle and the latest, most expensive cellphone.

sphinx,

Great Post.👍

Your points, clarity, and historical knowledge are first rate, which is nice to read in contrast to the many poorly written articles produced by our hack MSM.

One of your sentences really stood out to me.

“The great charters of liberty from the Magna Carta to the Constitution are peace treaties negotiated by men who had grown tired of drowning in oceans of blood.”
