It is pretty well known that John Dewey did much of the legwork to create what we know today as the modern progressive school, which includes both university and children/young adults. That goes back to the 1930s.
Dewey himself was indoctrinated, this goes back to the 1880s. One of his professors, George Sylvester Morris, was an ardent Hegelian.

There was also pressure from students themselves by the ISS - the Intercollegiate Socialist Society.
You know the ISS even though you don’t realize it. The ISS renamed themselves to the LID- the League for Industrial Democracy. That may seem unimportant, but the LID renamed themselves again in the 60’s to SDS - the Students for a Democratic Society. Now you know.
Here, this book is from 1920. The professors were already well entrenched in statist views.
