I love VDH but he is wrong on what will happen.
1) Sports $. The non-Ivy League/Stanford/MIT/Northwestern type schools have MASSIVE income from semi-pro sports.
2) Endowments. The endowments of most schools, esp. the Ivy League, is larger than the GNP of many nations. Even defections from half a dozen big donors won’t affect that in the least.
3) The Commie infrastructure built up over 30-50 years will require a dedicated, full time, top down McCarthy style purge of faculty and administrators. I don’t see anyone-—even President Trump-—having the dedication or time to pursue this.
They will rot, slowly, falling 4% in attandence in the last few years. And this may be steady, but I don’t see them getting much lower than 40% of the available student population.
What is the principled conservative’s position on an “Ivy League contribution to America’s recovery” endowment levy? Kind of like a communist import tariff?
