It would have been wiser to just consolidate his hold on Crimea and the Eastern Provinces, declared victory, and called it quits. It would have been wiser to forget about reviving a deservedly-dead empire. But here we are, and we can’t go back and pretend he’s not doing to Ukraine on a larger scale what he encouraged Hamas to do to Israel on a smaller. Now the West is distracted by the goings on in my country, and Zelensky is learning to his sorrow about American attention spans. Ukraine can’t be abandoned, and not because of any silly-assed notions of democracy, but to avoid a world war.
Had Brandon not f@#$ed over Afghanistan and let Iran get ahold of oil revenues and sanction refunds, we would not have had this problem, not in Ukraine, nor in Israel, nor any worries about Taiwan or Moldova. Weakness and fecklessness have consequences.
I am not an expert on such things, but it sounds right. If Russia truly wanted to stop fighting, I don't see how our Russia haters could have stopped that from happening unless Ukraine wanted to continue the war. I don't know if it was Putin's own idea to be greedy or those mysterious members of the Russian deep state.
But I keep thinking of what happened in 1944. After the US captured the Mariana Islands and Japan was in range of B-29s, Tojo told his diplomat to make peace. The diplomat replied that it is easier to start a war than to end it.

In general I support providing defensive weapons. However, congress always ties that to pork here and in Ukraine, and policies that enslave us. I'll bet some of our congresscritters can't lift the bills they vote for. I can carry the Constitution in my pocket.
