Senate Democrats are demanding amnesty because they know the calendar is against them in 2024, where they have to defend twice the number of seats as Republicans.

It's quite possible that the Republicans retake control of the Senate in 2025, so the Democrats are "demanding" things now in advance of losing the next Senate.

However, only the Republicans would be stupid enough to fall for it and give the Democrats anything they want, because... demanded.
