Well, this is undoubtedly a net positive!
Yesterday, The Daily Mail reported that the “sun is setting on liberal professors in the Sunshine State” as Ron DeSantis’s anti-woke initiatives in education have begun to take effect. From the article:
The sun is setting on liberal professors in the Sunshine State as Ron DeSantis’s war on woke starts to bite, with some accusing the governor of ‘open hostility’ to higher education.
Turnover has jumped by a quarter in the last two years at the University of Florida after a slew of new laws cracked down on diversity, trans rights and jobs for life.
And the number of tenured professors leaving Florida State University is up by half with college authorities struggling to attract replacements, and the state’s academics look as far as Canada for new opportunities.
They’re actually leaving the state, sometimes even the country (sorry about your bad luck Canada). Is this how we clean up academia? Or at least the colleges in “red” states? Seems like a pretty good start.
Then, from an article in The New York Times, we read this:
Many are giving up coveted tenured positions and blaming their departures on Governor DeSantis and his effort to reshape the higher education system to fit his conservative principles.
What’s funny though, is those “conservative principles” are really just Western values and disciplines—call them “secular” if you like—and they’re exactly what made American education great in the first place. Without an understanding in masonry, engineering, or chemistry, would we have Memorial Hall in Cambridge? Without courses in Western politics and war, history, or ethics, would we have a Declaration of Independence or a Constitution?

Win/win/win. Why didn't Republicans think of this fifty years ago?
Some probably did but didn't have the courage to act. And today some RINO’s don't have the good sense to follow Gov. DeSantis’ lead.
That's it, recruit from Canada!
Whoop, read that wrong...
Btw, how many college professors jobs could there be in Canada? 20? maybe 30?
I would take classes on Taylor Swift over the hate filled classes promoting feminism, leftism, and racism. Way less damage to American society.
No conflicting information in this article!
Excellent! Get those filthy commies the eff OUT of my beloved alma mater. 1/4 is a good start. Let’s be honest though. Probably about 90% of them are hardcore Leftists. We need a massive purge of the faculty just like practically every other university in the US.
Bye Bye! No one will miss you!
Students who want to actually learn something are going the other direction.
Wait! I’ve got it!
Take him on a snipe hunt, yeah that’s the ticket.
Hell, I’ll come up from Florida for that one.
Should be good news for Florida. Presumably, the resulting vacancies can be filled with competent traditional-minded or conservative replacements. The chances for a decent education in Florida appear to be rising.
There are only so many jobs in academia in a state. It’s going to get tough out there since tenure will lock out new applicants for quite a while. DeSantis and the legislature reformed tenure in Florida by requiring that new tenured professors have to undergo a review every 5 years in order to keep their status.
To clarify, I mean tenure in the liberal states will force Florida’s fleeing academics to have to wait elsewhere.
HOW ABOUT FROZEN ON THE TUNDRA???
Hope they end up in the unemployment lines...in some country other than the USA. Our only hope of survival is to force march all liberals/libertarians/marxists/demoRATs to Kanada (or, messyco, whichever is closest).
It really doesn’t matter how many academics leave. There’s an enormous glut of professors and has been for close to half a century.
Being a professor at the University of Florida is a plum position and they can recruit worldwide.
I have met post doctoral researchers who are in their 50’s. One died of old age.
Yes in the North West Territories Great slave lake would be a nice spot for them.
