A Plague of College Student Dishonesty: Young people nowadays seek admission to top schools with tactics that are at best questionable and at worst dishonest, and they succeed!

This is not a good time for American higher education, but as bad as this may seem, matters are even worse. The students themselves are part of the problem when they seek admission to top schools with tactics that are at best questionable and at worst dishonest.

Dishonesty is rampant. Students will even misrepresent their race or ethnicity. This is hardly a surprise in today’s academic world that prizes diversity, and admissions officers willingly lower standards to achieve it.

According to one study, some 34% of white students admitted lying about their ethnic identify for purposes of admission or financial aid, with “Native American” being the most popular subterfuge and 13% falsely claiming to be Latino. Ten percent of these whites checked the African-American ancestry box. The deceit generally worked: 77% of those lying were admitted.

Deceit is further encouraged by “college admission counselors” to help youngsters whose families can afford to guide Junior into a school beyond his true academic abilities.

Seek help on your control issues.

So says the "man" who needs to crawl into a bottle to feel he's in control of his own life. Oh -- and don't drink and drive.

I don’t see where I mentioned anything about the border, nor justifying lying. The point was ignorance, and the intelligent manipulating such. Forgive my poor communication.

Haven’t had a drink in well over a decade.

Hit a nerve, did I? Your self-appointed policing of speed limits is such an obvious symptom of major control issues. You’re just mad that you’re so transparent, and how quickly I spotted it lol.

“If everyone would just do as I say, the world would be a much better place!”

Enjoy your endlessly frustrated life!

Dude, you couldn’t be more wrong about me or my life. I actually have a much better (and happier) life than most folks, fortunately, and it’s mainly due to living by every rule I expect others to live by.

I’ll make you a deal: Outside of the recent thread about speeding — which IS breaking the law — if you can find the exact quote you’re attributing to me, or any other “controlling” post by me (directed at a FReeper), I’ll donate $1000 to FR. If you can’t find that exact quote, or another “controlling” post, you donate $1000 to FR.

We’ll let someone fair on FR be the judge of whatever you may find. Good luck.
