Odd. Bring in some if the most 3rd world of the 3rd world, from one of the hottest places around and resettle them in two of the coldest places in the country.
First, you know the story was not written by a Mainer as the called Westbrook a town. Westbrook, home of Rudy Vallee, is a city.

As to your comment, you are mistaken, the number of Somalians that may or may not be in Portland has nothing to do with this story.
Right now they are the least of our problems in Portland. Portland just elected two Somalians to our School Board, with the support of several prominent Republicans. There was no center right candidate and the alternative was a DSA operative. The other person elected was unopposed and we know very little about her.
I really get tired of people denigrating others without knowing what is really happening.
As I remember it, their migration as political refugees to the U.S. started in DEC 1992 when part-time Maine resident POTUS #41 GHWB decided to invade Somalia during his last full month in office. He then handed that steaming pile to POTUS #42 WJC who didn't know what to do. The point being, many of these Somalis found their way down South, espeically the metro-Atlanta area. But then they heard about the state freebies Maine offered and they picked up and re-migrated to southwestern Maine.

Lewiston too.
They begged for them to come. They wanted to replace the local Franco-Americans who had built the town and were now leaving for actual jobs elsewhere.There were ads on radio in Atlanta [ among other places] dangling benefits in front of them.
Lewiston became overrun with Somalis while its sister city, Auburn right across the river did not.
If it were not for gov. subsidies, Lewiston would blow away. IMHO. Like that Twilight Zone episode, Its A Good Life, everybody claims it is just fine...yep...mighty fine.
