I was just rereading my post and had to chuckle at “only 27 miles”.
FWIW, Tonga was another Krakatoa style pop, with a VEI of 5.7, but a plume 38 miles high, that started underwater.. 2nd highest known, I believe? This article cites “eruption rate” which is for sure an interesting way to consider an eruption.
