It’s 5 years too early to tell for sure. He’s just not ‘slick’ enough to win a national election, sadly.
But his record, performance, and stances are better than about anyone.
He’s a case where the right wants a slick willy over the real deal.
He has damaged himself in multiple ways…
Association with Bushies
Attacking Trump
Siphoning money into the PAC
Abandoning his governorship
Covering up his schedule
Spending taxpayer money to get publicity
Squandering the good will many of us had for him
Demonstrating his lack of campaign judgement
… etc.
Time will tell.
