The City of New York is getting behind the tiny-house movement big time.
In an effort to create more affordable housing, a few lucky borough homeowners will be granted hundreds of thousands of dollars to construct accessory dwelling units (ADU) on their properties.
Last Tuesday, the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) announced the launch of its new “Plus One ADU” pilot program, which will fund the creation of additional living space for growing and multi-generational families.

Around here you can build a nice e bedroom house on 1/3 of an acre for that money.

3 bedroom house, dammit.

Here in Los Angeles County it will cost that much just to get a Building Permit! I did it.
Well, to be fair, it’s $95,000 for the house and $300,000 in kickbacks and bribes to the permitting offices, union contractors and property tax bureau.
In other words, it helps the wealthy in NYC get wealthier. Crony Democrat Party at its finest.
I lived in towns where a home had to be larger than 2500 sf or the town would not issue a building permit.
I got 5 acres. Bring them on, but then I’m in eastern Washington, and my city is already 70+% Hispanic so what’s a few more?

How to convert the meth lab in the alley behind your house...
There are only fifteen of these proposed for the entire city.
Lol.
They would not even notice fifteen new meth labs.
I live in a town in NH where you are required to have 300’ of road frontage and between 3 or 5 acres depending on what part of town to build a single family residence. Of course, we have no town water or sewer. So you will need to drill a well and put in septic tank and leach field. Which need to be a minimum of 75 feet apart.
The only service on the poll is electricity, phone and cable.
None of that fancy fiber optic cable either.
Forerunners to a 15 minute village?
And after built and a tenant moves in, they will tell the new landlords that they can’t collect rent for a few years.
-NYC to pay lucky homeowners up to $395K to build a tiny home as part of new program-
Not a good idea in NYC. Instead of robbing your house they will steal your house.
Just imagine the property taxes in NY on a 200 square foot home that costs 400K. I am guessing close to 20K per year.
I can make one about the size of a postage stamp.
Bring back the Accessory Apartment after decades of NIMBY BANNING them?
Maybe they’ll bring back SRO’s to The Big Apple.
history- Guess what “Apples” are?
Build your own jail cell. And charge us half a million dollars for it. Crazy ass bastards.
