What American Conservatives Can Learn From Argentina's Javier Milei

Javier Milei, the self-described classical liberal and anarcho-capitalist who won Argentina's presidential election on Sunday, campaigned with a brash message of slashing government programs, cutting taxes, and privatizing state-owned enterprises.

Can voters experiencing economic turmoil be persuaded that government is the problem, rather than the solution?

Yes.

Milei won more than 56 percent of the vote

Look how The New York Times summarizes Milei's platform: "lowering taxes; slashing regulations; privatizing state industries; reducing the number of federal ministries to eight from 18; shifting public education to a voucher-based system and public health care to insurance-based; and cutting federal spending by up to 15 percent of Argentina's gross domestic product."

While there might be some overlap with American conservatives when it comes to cutting certain taxes and regulations, the rest of Milei's political agenda is expressly libertarian and often directly at odds with the aims of the so-called "New Right."

“America’s conservatives are moving in the opposite direction: ginning up culture wars to justify further intrusions into individuals’ right to live as they see fit, and competing with the progressive left to pander with promises of more economic interventions: tariffs, industrial policies, direct subsidies to the working and middle classes.”

Um, really?

I’m sorry to say America has a long way to go before it is ready for anything approaching Melie’s philosophy.

Argentinians have had many decades of rampant inflation, government corruption and theft. It has finally sunk in that there is no progressive, interventionist or state-sponsored solution. Indeed, they finally understand their woke, corrupt state IS the problem

Americans still very much believe in the nanny-state. Moreover, having the world’s reserve currency means US/Dem’s money printing, bloated debt and insider dealing gets diluted around the world before full impact his felt at home.

Our economy is falling apart fast. We’re closer to a Milei point than you might think.

Catastrophic amounts of freedom vanished with Covid… under a conservative prez. Tell the truth, would you have stayed home and worn a mask if Obama was prez.
There was even a voice of reason in the White House calling for not rushing to vaccines.
Trumps very own mail in ballots cemented permanent tyranny in our country.
His daca amnesty started caravans of thousands televising their invasion.
