“Isn’t the new president a libertarian? Libertarians are usually against using the police and the military.”

The headline is misleading. Here is a more complete account of what the new president said:

Melei is just expressing a popular opinion. He needs the support.

There are roadside signs all around Argentina saying: 'Las Malvinas Son Nuestros', meaning the Falklands are ours.

This topic is very popular politically and gets the goat herders all worked up...which isn't difficult if you know anything about the Argies,

I worked 2 years in Argentina on a big mine construction project in the high Andes...frustrating people to work with.
Would rather construct a big project in Africa than Argentina.

“””””Argentina is going to be a member of BRICS come January”””””

This election didn’t change that?

>>>It’s a good time to do it. Last time, the UK still had their Cold War military, now they have next to nothing, and most of their ‘next to nothing’ they already disposed of in Ukraine.<<<

If I recall, Britain was barely able to bomb the airfields ahead of the arrival of the carriers with bombers that they were about to retire. They had to scrounge around for the aerial refueling equipment as the planes weren’t even doing that anymore. Now the UK has only 2 carriers in total and no long range bombers.

OTOH Argentina’s navy isn’t as strong as it once was either. Should be an interesting match up.

Better demographics in the long term for Argentina. They were at above replacement rate until recently (due to the economic crash).
