Sorry. RDS is right, and to some extent the confusion issue will be blunted. I don’t like saying this, b/c we must win.

No he’s not right. Trump is as sharp now as he was his first term. Unless you’re making assumptions about what his health and mental condition will be like at the end of a second term, then you’re essentially saying Trump was too old during his first term.

Trump gets up and speaks for hours at a time, extemporaneously. Anyone who does that often enough is bound to make a flub here and there, or lose their train of thought from time to time. Besides, Trump’s rally persona doesn’t tell the whole story. Trump uses rallies as opportunities to speak informally, and the fact that he allows himself to do so demonstrates his authenticity. And the crowd gets it. They understand that when you’re with friends relaxing, having a few drinks or whatever, you don’t control everything you say. You say what pops into your head, you exaggerate sometimes, or forget a name. Sometimes you go off on a tangent and forget the original point you were trying to make. I’ve done it. We all have. That doesn’t mean when you show up for work Monday morning, that you’re not capable of acting professionally and doing the job.

That’s the thing people don’t get about Trump and that’s why few if any politician could recreate what he’s done, because to do so, you’d have to be willing to speak honestly and off the cuff and let people see the real you. That’s dangerous for most politicians because they know if they show their real selves to the people, the people aren’t going to like it. Following Trump’s example would mean making mistakes from time to time, saying things that may be politically incorrect, but having the confidence that the people will see beyond that, see the big picture, and understand what you’re really all about. It’s not something that can be faked which is why you never see politicians doing it. The mistakes, the forgotten names, come with the territory.
