I’ll dispute you for leaving out the Nixons. The Carters played the politics in such a way that there was very little political flak. Pat Nixon “stood by her man” from the time he provoked the political left by going after Alger Hiss, and she did it with quiet dignity.
Fair enough, Pat was indeed a good helpmeet, and their children were loyal to the end as well, which cannot even be said of our standard bearer unfortunately.
