Congress could eliminate or rein in these agencies if they had the political will to do so. But it should be pretty apparent that Congress has farmed out much of its “law making” authority to the Executive. Congress should write good legislation. That’s not to say there won’t be situations that Congress didn’t consider. But right now and for the past 40+ years, the Executive has used Chevron deference like a bull in a china shop to shape and craft policy.
Congress currently simply isn’t up to the task of being… Congress.
Congress has already issued subpoenas that just get ignored, or if they do appear they say they don’t recall or can’t speak to an ongoing investigation. They blow congress off regularly, and all congress can do is hold them in contempt or issue a sternly worded letter.
It’s a joke - they are unaccountable. Prove me wrong.
