Johnson, who inherited the problem of a potential government shutdown when he was elected to the role after weeks of paralysis, saw 93 members of his conference in the Republican-controlled lower legislative chamber vote against his proposal. Almost all Democrats—209 members—voted for the plan with two voting against it.

Matt Gaetz voted NO again... So I presume he will now bring down the new Speaker of the House!? For a prolonged forever circus? After all, Mike Johnson did here what McCarthy would have done.

"After all, Mike Johnson did here what McCarthy would have done."

Which is exactly why McCarthy was removed. Johnson can be given a little slack, he has only been the speaker for three weeks, the next one is on him.

Sure are a lot of people who want him gone. GOPe really wants him gone too. Probably a coincidence.

This is so boring. 5 million foreign invaders in-country, and counting. Who gives two shits about a “government shutdown”?

McNothing would not have done what he is presently doing. See, the new speaker actually has a plan of individual bills being vote on separately. If he sticks to that then no, McNothing is nowhere close to what the new speaker may bring. It’s simple, McNothing broke multiple promises. He was TOLD if he did not uphold his promises then McNothing was b inv tossed on his a $$. Finally, someone in the House (Gaetz) did SOMETHING to change the trajectory of vote along to get along yet we b!tch because someone finally did something. McNothing is where he belongs; in the annals of another Rupuke toadie

Johnson, who inherited the problem of a potential government shutdown when he was elected

************

In actuality he inherited the problem of run away spending and lack of political will on either side to do anything about it.

I understand what you mean.
But if people are not getting their salaries paid there could be riots and protests.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I get your point.
But WHY in that case didn’t Gaetz vote “yes” this time??
Almost all Democrats: 209 members voted for the plan with only two voting against it. That is an indirect result of Gaetz actions. I find such a situation quite ironic... more Democrats voting for it than Republicans...

I agree. However he is consistent. I don’t think he’ll vote in any budget that contains deficit spending no matter who is the leader of the party. While yes he is impatient, I’ll give that he is consistent in what he believes and doesn’t flop like a fish.

I think you are short by a factor of at least 6, probably much more.

So the panic about a shut down is because of gooberment employees? They’ll get paid, eventually. I don’t see the problem. Riots and protests? They will have to get dressed and come out of their basements for that. Not likely.

Sadly, you are likely correct. It's like that ridiculous "11 million" figure they paraded in front of us for 20 years.

umm speaking of who inherited what, using same reasoning McCarthy inherited a decades-long history of House shirking of regular order. Johnson better get it done this time around. he’s just another smooth talker so far.

11 million or 13 million, both are short by at least a factor of two and likely 3 and maybe 4. You are right, they have used the same old numbers for at least two decades.

I hear People magazine is naming Speaker Johnson, "The Sexiest Man Alive."

He is kinda cute-looking.

You sound hysterical.

McCarthy did what he did over-and-over again.

Despite Gaetz and others including myself disagreeing with this CR, Johnson will be given a chance in January and February.
