MANCHESTER, N.H. — New Hampshire's secretary of state plans to announce the date of the first-in-the-nation primary Wednesday afternoon.

Secretary of State David Scanlan has some options for when he can schedule the primary and comply with New Hampshire state law, which mandates that the presidential primary be held seven or more days ahead of a "similar election."

If the primary can't be on a Tuesday, the secretary of state can call a special election for other days of the week. Scanlan has previously said that Saturdays are on the table if needed.

Iowa has already set its caucus date for Jan. 15. It gets to go ahead of New Hampshire because a caucus is not deemed a "similar election."

Team DeSantis cheerleaders: But it’s way too early.

Nope. Iowa in 2 months, New Hampshire right after. Time is almost up.

Scanlan has said it looks like that threat has been averted, avoiding the need to jump ahead of Iowa to uphold the law.

Iowa isn't the issue. The issue is South Carolina. The DNC demanded that SC is the first primary and New Hampshire told the DNC to pound sand. NH Dem primary will probably be on 23 January, the same day as the Republican one, and 11 days before the SC primary.
