With all of the competition among foreign students to come to this country for an education, how can this country not produce a sufficient number of native-born American job candidates that we need to import expertise? Or at least enough that we don't need an expensive, complicated visa program based on job skills?

Face it. If you major in STEM then you throw away the most “fun” 4 years of your life. STEM is not fun. Then when you graduate you have to compete for wages with Rahm who is a FOB - Fresh Of the Boeing.

With all of the competition among foreign students to come to this country for an education A big part of the problem is that US universities would rather have students from foreign countries, many of whom are willing to pay full price, than American students who are less likely to pay full price. At many US universities a significant portion of the available openings for students are taken up by foreign students. That keeps American kids from learning the skills the companies claim they need.
