BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) – Hungary’s prime minister said Friday he does not support moving forward on negotiations on Ukraine’s future membership in the European Union, signaling again that his country could pose a major roadblock to Kyiv’s ambitions to join the bloc.
EU leaders are to decide in mid-December whether Ukraine should be formally invited to begin talks to join the 27-member union, with Hungary seen as a potential obstacle. Unanimity among all member states is required to admit a new country into the bloc, giving Hungary’s prime minister, Viktor Orbán, a powerful veto.

Hungary should stand on their principles and quit the EU. Simple as that.
And leave NATO too...but Putin pal Orban wants his cake and to eat it too.
I’m hungary
Fiddle dee dee
Slovakia is likely to side with Hungary on blocking EU accession talks.
Might be time to disband NATO then. This is the kind of “entangling alliance” the US doesn’t need.
Some "talks" regarding NATO and regarding the EU have drawn out to many, many years.
This hot mess hasn't got that long to run, if attrition of manpower is considered, and so the wiggle words and sternly worded letters strategy is intended to appear as something it likely is not.
Consider: After 9/1 Bush II put together a "coalition of the willing" to gather and actually invade Iraq and Afghanistan. So where are the Europeans ready to actually invade and fight alongside the Ukrainians on Ukrainian soil? Yup. Different game afoot. Let's see the French and Germans and Italians all mobilize their militaries under a joint command, embed some real journalists and go. No? Yes? -- Actually, the stance is "someday" and "maybe."
Russia is about 145 million, while the EU alone is about 450 million. Tick tock. (Waiting for Uncle Joe to did it for them....)
In the interim, "formally invited to begin...." might / could be. But then again....
Orban has led Hungary to embrace a loser ideology of Critical Hungarian Studies, where they wallow in their imagined victimhood and insist that everything is permitted to them to undo “systemic racism”.
German industry is backing them. Hungary is the most subsidized region in the EU and the money is split between Orban and German car manufacturers.
