Growing up in Iraq and Lebanon, we looked at the West with awe. The West was ahead of the Arabs world on many levels, including government, urban planning, social welfare, science, literature, technology and military strength. In Lebanon, almost every child at school was taught three languages, learning English and French, in addition to our native Arabic. Parents talked to their children in these languages.
We generally associated success and wealth with speaking Western languages.

During my years in the old homeland, the Arabs were in consensus over the need to emulate the West, but there was an obstacle: The West was Christian and we were Muslim. The Arabs therefore reasoned that they would copy everything from the West except for social norms. We Muslims did not eat pork or drink alcohol. Inter-gender relations were strictly limited and monitored. The collective tribal opinion always trumped independent personal thinking.
Our Westernized life copied consumerism but left out values such as liberty, freedom, and equality. The result was a society that was Western on the outside but backward and tribal on the inside. Eradicating Western influences and replacing them with “authentic” nativist Islamism was exactly where our Middle Eastern backwardness met Western academic fantasies. Leading the Left, Western academia called for breaking the establishment everywhere and replacing it with native, even if rudimentary, social and political systems.
The Left saw Islamism as authentic and unadulterated by White European colonialism. To push for progress, the Middle East had to decolonized and Islamism restored. Western Progressives were, in effect, promoting conservative ideologies, an irony that most of them seem to have missed.

We all know that the Left supports fundamental Islam, but the question is, "Is the American Left primarily responsible for the rise of fundamental Islam in the world today?"
Now why oh why is that?

These western values are myths
Islam continues apace.
Muslim = perpetual poverty and slavery and war and stagnant for centuries.
West = thriving society where women are equal where society continues to move forward and develop.
Good with the bad.
At least we can call them out... for now.

2. Islam cannot change
In Islam, there is no natural sense of morality that transcends the specific examples and commands in the Koran. Because Muhammad is considered Allah’s final prophet, and they believe the Koran is the eternal, unalterable words of Allah himself, there is no possibility of an evolving morality that permits the modification or integration of Islamic morality with that from other sources. The entire Islamic moral universe devolves solely from the life and teachings of Muhammad. They cannot assimilate into Western or other societies.
Not easy facts to accept, but a fact nonetheless.
Why would Muslims be interested in a place that doesn’t even know the difference between male and female? The West does not always progress it was always going to degenerate into something between 1984 and Brave New World when the people started to abandon Christ.
The American left is heading towards the values of Islam and they’re too stupid to realize they will bethe first ones to have their heads lopped off.
US foreign policy pretty uniformly opposed the more modern secular Arab governments in Egypt, Syria, Iraq, etc. and supported the monarchist, Islamist governments in Jordan, Saudi Arabia, etc. ever since WW II.
In our world what we call terrorism, in their world is just Muslims doing as the Holy Quran commands them.

Yes, fundamental (i.e., radical) Islam has been around forever, but it might have declined dramatically in a world dominated by modern technology had not the American Left jumped to its defense with lots of money and moral support.
So in those countries where it might have become a fringe element, the Left enabled it with enough money that it actually rose to dominance.
Rightly or wrongly, that seems to be the theory posited by the author (I think).
In this vein, consider Obama's Arab Spring but with much more money (and military support) and over a long period of time.
The translations of the Holy Quran being sold to non Muslims have been altered to make Islam look like a religion of peace.
