Public urination is high on the list of critiques of the French capital, along with rats, noise, and people not picking up their dogs’ business. Referred to in France as le pipi sauvage, or "wild peeing", the propensity for public urination – which is technically illegal and mainly male – is explained by many factors, though a lack of available public toilets is a fundamental one.
Over the years, Parisian leaders have proposed a number of innovative solutions but, so far, to no avail.
The newest scheme to combat the ongoing problem comes from a start-up from the western city of Nantes called Urban Services.
ICI Toilettes (“Toilets HERE”) has two main functions. First, it is a geolocation application that helps users locate public toilets and allows them to update the status of the facility if it is in disrepair. This helps members of the public find the closest functional bathroom in real time and keeps local authorities informed about the state of the city’s sanitation infrastructure.
As part of a larger strategy, the response from the public has been “extremely positive”, says Di Gallo, adding that it makes the city more inclusive by meeting the needs of “women, the elderly and disabled people”, who have described the difficulties they encounter when out in public with no access to facilities.
“Of course, we also hope that those who degrade our public spaces will now be more inclined to use a toilet,” Di Gallo says.

Can they make another app in Paris to help men find the nearest French woman who shaved her armpits?
Why not simply clear the city of any Third World residents?
The pissoir,
Garlic, cigarettes, urine, dog feces, and vehicle exhaust — the “bouquet” of Paris. The French typically have had careless hygiene habits, and public urination has been made worse by the invasion of the Aloha Snackbars.
Is that where all the d1cks hang out?
Didn’t George Costanza come up with this?
Ok, that made me laugh…
I remember what looked like barrels around trees…
Mainly male...
I guess they dont count weekend nights where the gals get falling down drunk and pee right there in the open
See they downplay the drunk gals doing it en masse on weekends and falling in the gutter, but frame it a homeless guy problem so they can blame it all on guys, of course the guys society is not set up to help like all women and children
No
But he did get caught
Jerry too
Well played sir!
How about simply providing more public facilities?
“Siri, où y a-t-il des jeunes femmes sans poils aux aisselles?”
The pissoirs reached their peak in the 1930's when there were about 1,200 throughout Paris but that number quickly shrank to 329 in 1966, probably due to the city not replacing ones that were broken and run down. After 2006 there was only one, and its currently situated on the picturesque Boulevard Arago in the 13th arrondissement. Its apparently still in use, obvious by its smell.
“Qui. mais. seulement en photographs!”
Seems easy:
1. Public restrooms available
2. Catch urinator letting loose in public instead of the restroom...
3. Hit with nightclub repeatedly
4. Large fine
5. Second offense, hit with nightclub and a week in jail plus fines.
6. Public flogging for third offense.
I was in Paris the summer of 1976. Took a boat ride on the Seine River. Was told not to put my hand in the water due to raw sewage. A pretty nasty city then…
Last time I was in Downtown London in the club district I saw pee toilets which if you looked down on them were in an X design with a pee place in each of the angles. there were no doors, but they worked just fine for Cis Male people, and there were lines
I suppose they would have worked for Cis Females if they had a Pstyle attachment, but I never saw that
They were pissing in public back in the early 90’s when I first went there.
They were pissing in public back in the early 50’s when my dad went there.
It’s a French thing.
