Prospective lawyers no longer need to pass the bar exam to become licensed in Oregon following a decision Tuesday by the state Supreme Court.
The Oregon State Bar can now license law school graduates who submit a portfolio of their work practicing law for an independent evaluation as an alternative to the traditional exam, a change the leader of Willamette University’s College of Law has pushed for years.
The court unanimously approved the new Supervised Practice Portfolio Examination, which will allow graduates to complete 675 hours of legal work supervised by an experienced attorney. That’s the amount of time most people study for the bar exam, according to a news release from the university.

Let the lawyer jokes commence.
I’ll Start. What do you call 10,000 lawyers at the bottom of the ocean?
Standards are going lower and lower until standards will have no meaning.
The companion question to that is "Why won't sharks eat them?"
Just go ahead and do what you really want, Oregon - let them present their coloring books and a session on the playground to see how far they can swing.
One question: will you obey your global puppeteers and burn the Constitution, yes or no? Same question for doctors, surgeons, Nursing and gov med.
“Standards are going lower and lower until standards will have no meaning.”
It’s called Affirmative Action.
I wonder how this will fit in with the changes said to be coming to the legal industry having to do with righting the wrongs caused by the Organic Act of 1871, which will be a doozy.
“Portfolio of work” is one of the biggest scams in academia. (Unless you’re an artist and it is your actual work.)
It is also required for students who have been dumbed down after a young lifetime of dumbed down education.
Most people apparently have no clue how clueless their children or grandchildren are—or there would indeed be an open revolt in the country.
“It is also required for students who have been dumbed down after a young lifetime of dumbed down education.”
That, too.
Surprise. Williamette is ranked 155th of 197 accredited law schools in the US.
My stepfather became the county judge with only a high school education.
I am sure the “supervised portfolio of work” will only be accepted if it is with leftie organizations.
Great, a further devolution of fair standards.
I imagine this will now make it much easier to include racial components and political criteria into the new “exam process”.
Nurses once were required to wear clean, white, starched uniforms and cap every day Now they wear their pajamas.
Police officers were once fit and trim, and wore an official departmental cap showing their position and role in society. Now they look like fat super heroes squeezed like sausages into their body armor and dangling gear, only fit to decorate Dunkin Donuts.
My wife was a Bankruptcy Attorney for 40 years, she passed the Florida Bar Exam on the first try, she went to work for a law firm and was given an assignment to write a pleading for a partner for an upcoming hearing, she had no idea what to do
Basically the bar exam proves you know enough to pass an exam but probably have no idea how to practice law, most legal work is procedural and no bar exam or law school will give you practical experience
I’m not saying this is a good idea but it’s the end of qualified Lawyers

This is great news for my sister, as she graduated from the school of hard knocks. And she spent over 1000 hours cleaning the offices of attorneys.
Can she start suing big corporations right away, or does she have to fill out some forms first?
