Vivek got the soundbite-of-the-night award for his opening salvo to Ronna.
Very true.
But he's also doing something important, by dragging out into the light on the debate stage the war in the Republican party between the donor class and Republican voters. The chair's most important job is to raise money and help win elections, two things that she's conspicuously failed to do. Vivek is pointing out that the base, which is largely with Trump at this point, isn't going to put up with an RNC that would rather lose without the deplorable Trump voters than win with them. Ironically, the Republican party always got more small donor dollars than the Democrats, and while that grass-roots fundraising never really moved the election dial, it did serve as a proxy approval rating for the party. That's not quite gone, but it's taken a severe hit in the past couple of cycles. Vivek is willing to point out that the Republican establishment emperor has no clothes. If nothing else, it's fun to see this long-simmering internal fight exposed so publicly.
