The rule states that if there is not a comparable sport for the opposite sex, then the team can be co-ed. For example, there are girls and boy’s basketball. However, there is not boy’s field hockey or girl’s wrestling. You see a lot of girls wrestling these days…and they win.

My granddaughter is in her first year playing volleyball. I’ve been to two games where the other team had a boy on the team. I was unaware that if the school doesn’t have a team for the boys that they can play with the girls. I can’t imagine why any high school boy would even want to be a part of the the girls team.
What was interesting was that the boys on each of these teams were terrible players and got very little time on the floor.
